God is on the move. This is obvious when we look at what is happening in and through the Atlantic Canadian church. We are celebrating God changing lives, growing churches and transforming communities.
In Fredericton New Brunswick, God is moving across generational and cultural boundaries through the ministry of Smythe Street Cathedral, led by Pastor Verner Drost. Smythe is seeing tremendous growth in children’s ministry, as well as their youth ministry reaching 120 teens and their recently launched university church now reaching 60-70 young adults every Friday night. They are also seeing great success in reaching out to the immigrants in their community through their newly launched francophone and Swahili service. New strides are being seen in church unity with multiple Fredericton churches participating in a city-wide Alpha program. Smythe Street Cathedral has felt challenged to be “the best church for the city instead of the best church in the city”.
The Holy Spirit has been moving in power at Kings Church in Saint John, New Brunswick under the leadership of Pastor Brent Ingersoll. Whole families are coming to know Christ, people are being healed and they are seeing God’s blessing as they experience exponential growth of a 500 person increase in attendance in the past three years and were able to baptize 249 people in 2016 alone. “Over and over God has been gifting and blessing our organization” says Executive Pastor Del Heiney. Kings Church is excited to keep praying that God would spark a multiplication movement, asking themselves ‘what would it look like to pray & plan not only for their church, but for a movement?’ For Kings Church, the bottom line is the call to make disciples and they are thrilled to see hundreds and thousands come to know Jesus as they are seeking to plant churches around Atlantic Canada.

Cornerstone Baptist Church of P.E.I. is reporting God’s blessing as He continues to bring about new life as new individuals and families are joining their congregation. As the church ministers across three campuses, God is calling them onward and upward with their physical locations and staffing as they seek to expand all these areas to accommodate new growth. “It never gets old, seeing more and more people come to know God” –Lead Pastor Phil Woodworth. The church is celebrating over 25 baptisms in 2016 and are thrilled to see God continue His transforming work into 2017 baptisms to come!
God is using Calvary Pentecostal to be an agent for transformation in P.E.I under the leadership of Pastor Phil Taylor. God is calling their church to get out of their comfort zone and to go beyond their walls with the opening of a new café in downtown Charlottetown. God is restoring broken families, bitter enemies are being baptized together as brothers in Christ & their student and family ministry is thriving.
Amid victories in churches all across Atlantic Canada, these are just a few of the stories of what God is doing! Far from having to despair, we can rejoice in what God is doing across cultures communities and churches! Let’s praise God for what He is doing and pray for more transformed lives, communities and churches! Press on!
A special thank you to all churches involved in this publication of Celebrations.
